Ladakh to host fashion show at world’s highest motorable road for G20

Umling La, the highest motorable road in the world at 19,022 feet, will host a special fashion display as part of the Ladakh International Music Festival, which will return in 2023.

This year’s Ladakh International Fashion Runway is scheduled to take place between August 23 and September 3. The event is an initiative inspired by the G20 from the Ladakh Art and Entertainment Alliance, aiming to reflect the spirit of G20.

Leaders from G20 member nations and invited nations, along with Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss Earth delegates from around the world, will participate in the program and share their thoughts on empowerment and peace. Notable attendees reportedly include Miss Earth India Vanshika Parmar, Miss Earth Italy Giulia Ragazzini, Miss Earth USA Lindsey Coffey, Miss Universe Japan Yuumi Kato, Miss Earth UK Luissa Burton, Miss Earth Germany Annabella Fleck, and Miss World Bangladesh Rafah Nanjeba Torsa.

Tashi Gyalson, the Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, expressed delight as they prepare for the event in Ladakh. In a media briefing, he emphasized the importance of connecting local values to global decisions and promoting the concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which means “the world is one family” in Sanskrit.

Interestingly, each international model participating in the fashion show will contribute 50 grams of sand from their own country. After the event, this sand will be mixed with concrete and poured into a pre-made artistic mold representing “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” symbolizing unity and reflecting the G20 spirit.

Sushil Chaudhary, the co-founder of the Ladakh Art and Entertainment Alliance and founder of the Ladakh International Music Festival, highlighted the festival’s ongoing collaboration with the Indian Army and the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council. He added, “This year, we are excited to introduce the new Ladakh Fashion Runway, making the event even more expansive and unforgettable.”
