Google has made the decision to lay off Madhav Chinnappa, the director of news who had been with the company for 13 years. Chinnappa was included in the recent round of job cuts at Google. He took to LinkedIn to inform his connections about his current situation, stating that he is currently on gardening leave, which has given him ample time to reflect on his work, career, and life.
He expressed pride in his accomplishments during his time at Google, including initiatives such as the Digital News Initiative and the Google News Initiative Innovation Challenges. However, Chinnappa mentioned that he has some urgent family matters to attend to, and in light of the Zen proverb that a tea cup must be empty in order to be filled, he plans to take August off and then spend September caring for his mother in India. He intends to resume thinking about work in October, with the goal of pursuing new opportunities in 2024.
